The little town of Parikia, bright and spotless, has a Sunday view.
I saw the innumerable slabs that pave the narrow but central road, having all their four edges whitewashed.

UNEXPECTED VISITORS Contemporary art exhibition 19:00 - 23:00 Unexpected Visitors I ,Warehouse Gallery, Parikia Castle Yiannis Delagrammatikas, Ino Varvariti, Virginia Mastrogiannaki, Maria Papapostolou, Christos Vayatas, Zoe Hounda. The city of Paros, the Parechia of the 18th and 19th century travelers, the Parikia of all sorts of 20th century visitors, the Parikia of the locals, the Country of the Parians: many different versions of the same place are revisited in the "Unexpected Visitors" exhibition. Through a variety of visual media and practices, the exhibition gathers research material related to the visitors, who contributed to the formation of Parikia's identity and continue to influence the present of the place. The multiple representations of the island's capital construct the place, give meaning to the cultural heritage and intertwine with the ways the locals perceive themselves in the world. Unexpected Visitors II: The Cat and the Rooster Dimitrakopoulos Building *co-organization with the Art Workshop of the Municipality of Paros "The Cat and the Rooster" is a fictional story but based on real events, real people and places. A loud rooster, an angry cat, the visitor's chair and Marigo's nightmares in a red house in the country of Paros, spark the children's imagination. The story is told by the students of the Art Workshop of the Municipality of Paros using a variety of media and techniques. Parallel action: My house, my little house Sunday 19:00 - 21:00, Dimitrakopoulos Building. Art workshop for children 6-12 by Iro Vavanou. Unexpected Visitors III: Elizabeth Carson. Aegean Fine Arts Center A series of unknown photographs by Elizabeth Carson from Paros from previous decades is hosted at the Aegean Fine Arts Center. Carson came from New York and settled in Paros in the late 1960s. For years she captured the changing Paros with her camera. At the same time, he undertook portraits of visitors to the island, who came for a short time but wanted to keep forever a memory of their trip. Leisure as depicted in these images does not seem to concern the locals, who live at their own pace - in a daily life defined by the cyclical time of agricultural work as well as religious practices. Unexpected Visitors IV: Voula Papaioannou, Holland Tunnel Gallery *with the support of the Benaki Museum. Voula Papaioannou (1898-1990) visited Parikia in the early 1950s. She then traveled to the Aegean to capture the islands that were for many the hope and optimism for the post-war healing of Greece's wounds. The preference she has always shown to people, follows her on this journey as well. In Parikia, he photographed the residents, capturing a time when the settlement was primarily a place for people to live and coexist. Some of the photos that Papaioannou took in Paros are included in the album Iles Grecques by the French publishing house Claire Fontaine / Guilde de Livre. Exhibition opening: Friday July 13, 21:00, Warehouse Gallery and Aegean Fine Arts Center Curators of the exhibitions: Katerina Constantinou, Natasa Biza. DISCOVERING PARIKIA Parikia settlement, meeting point: Ekatontapylianis square, Friday July 13, 19:00 *Co-organized with tour guide Avgi Kalogiannis. An observation game of the city of Parikia for young and old through the stories of all those we have not noticed. Details we pass by everyday reveal stories we never imagined. Where is the oldest toilet in Parikia? Which saint guards the Lower Gate of the castle? Where was the emperor changing? And many more stories remain hidden waiting for the audience of the Paros Festival to discover them discover. Participants will meet in Ekatontapiliani square, where they will be given the relevant material and game instructions. PROJECTION "The signs of heaven" by Maros Anastopoulou [2016, duration 70'' Friday 13 July 2018, 00:00, Dimitrakopoulos Building In remote Amorgos, people toil and enjoy life in their own unique way. Captain Constantis and Leonidas the shepherd have lived all their lives in this small corner of the earth and yet they don't know each other. Their daily life is determined by one common parameter: the signs of the sky. Islanders carry centuries-old knowledge of weather forecasting. It is the signs of the sky, the winds, the stars, the clouds and the sea that sue them for tomorrow. The eternal cycle of life is the cycle of the seasons, birth and death but also a constant reminder of the simple beauty that floats undisturbed around us. The documentary was shown for the first time at the 18th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival and was awarded by the Fipresci International Film Critics Committee. He continues his journey to festivals in Greece and abroad. PLACES TO VISIT Friday – Saturday 19:00 - 23:00 Porcelain Workshop Yria In recent years, Ramona Ghika and Monique Mailloux have been operating their workshop behind the Crispi mansion, where the kitchen and utility areas of the house used to be. In this particularly elegant space, the two potters delicately handle "Parian" porcelain. This fine material was made at the end of the 19th century by the Staffordshire Pottery company in Britain, so that it resembles the ancient Parian marble. Today, almost two centuries later, the material is transformed in the hands of Ramona and Monique into all sorts of objects. Crispi's Mansion The mansion of the Crispi family opens to the public for the first time as part of the Paros Festival. The emblematic building in the Agora of Parikia is one of the most important mansions with a long history of local and national importance. Lady Mary's rocking chair, Panathinaikos, Bombay, the king and Kapodistrias; faces and things weave fascinating narratives in the two-story neoclassical mansion. Photo exhibition of Anna Mitrogiannis and Alexandra Fokaeos A series of photographs by Anna Mitrogiannis and Alexandra Fokaeos is hosted in the Crispi mansion. The two photographers visited the house shortly before it opened to the public of the Paros Festival and captured its inner world with a poetic twist. Parallel action: In Mrs. Mary's cupboard... Saturday 14 July 2018, 19:00 – 21:00 Archeology of the Recent Past: An Open Research Process to Record, Preserve and Interpret Crispi Manor Artifacts. What can one learn from the objects hidden in the cupboard of a mansion? Conservators work with the public to discover, reconstruct and restore a small part of a great past. Through recording, classification and conservation, the mansion's objects tell the stories of the house and its inhabitants. Coordinators: Zoe Kona (conservator of works of art, cultural heritage management consultant) and Christina Spartioti (museologist, conservator of works of art). A participatory action where everyone is welcome. Kantiotis Barbershop The barbershop in Agia Triada of Parikia operated for a little over half a century, from 1948 to 2000. The family of Yiannis Kantiotis (1928-2012) maintains it to this day in his memory. In this small place, Parikiotians and people who came from the "countryside" on Sundays got haircuts and shaves. Like the rest of the Agora, Kantiotis also worked on Sundays to serve the villagers who gathered in the "country" to go to church and procure the necessary supplies for the week. During the big holidays, many remember that the street was filled with chairs that Giannis brought from his house for the customers who were waiting their turn. Two things were never missing from this barbershop, fresh flowers and pictures of his family. The Greek song otherwise | Friday, July 13, 10:00 p.m., Agia Ekaterini courtyard
