Three days dedicated to the cultural and natural heritage of Paros. A celebration of the place and its people. On its 7th year, Paros Festival guides us around the island projecting its various aspects and invites us to discover it through a series of cultural events and activities. The light that highlights the dark places, the hidden ones, the humble ones. Into the light! Art exhibitions, guided tours, educational programs and experi- ential workshops, projections, music performances and concerts will be leading our sight and our thought for three days. “Moment and the Light” Liz Carson | Aegean Center for the Fine Arts
Photography exhibition. Liz Carson, a photographer from New York, settled in Paros in 1967 and spent the rest of her life along with her husband on this chosen homeland. She has captured images of the island that have been changed, lost, or even deteriorated. Liz left behind an invaluable trust after her death, as through her lens she had shed light on various aspects of the island life. A series of photos that focus on agricultural life, ancient monuments, religious moments and everyday life was chosen for this exhibition. These photos reflect on the multiple time periods that coexisted on the island during the decades of a quite decisive transition from the traditional way of life to the more contemporary one. After her husband’s, Jeffry Carson, kind offer, part of her exceptional work is exhibited by Paros Festival honoring her memory.
“I lie amongst the leaves and the burning trees” Kostas Pappas | Municipal Art Space
Kostas Pappas’ artistic practice includes large scale charcoal drawings and constructions that often include light and sound sources. In all of his work, and especially though his drawings, there seems to be a rupture in the relationship with the flow of time and the stability of space. Elements and shapes hover, permeate, clash and ultimately coexist in compositions that function as traps for the gaze, in a challenge for exploration. Fragments of rural landscapes share the space with architectural features which seem to suggest that the world consists of imaginary structures that constitute a place suspended.
“Constant” Video Mapping Projection | St. Constantine
The visual artist Panagiotis Tomaras creates an installation lighting in which fluid and geometri- cal light textures highlight and morph the architectural elements of Saint Constantine facade in Parikia at the Castle hill. Time: 21:00 - 24:00.
